Coach's Corner: Tip of the Week

ACHIEVEMENT [Article #1]

To successfully achieve a goal that you set for yourself, make sure that you focus on the results, not on what you have to do to achieve the results. Think back to the last goal you set for yourself which you did not achieve, and think about what you were most focused on during that process. Where you focused on the goal or what you had to do to achieve the goal? A great example is losing weight, Most people who want to lose weight don't even make the attempt because all they focus on is how hard it's going to be, how much planning they are going to have to do, how much time it will take, rather than focusing on how good they will look and how good they will feel when they achieve their goal. When you focus on all the negatives you are left with nothing to inspire you to take the actions. If you want to be successful at anything, it's most important to focus on that which inspires you. That will enable you to take the necessary actions. Think about Olympic athletes. When you consider what they have to go through to get to the Olympics, no one in a million years would ever put themselves through that process if they focused on what it takes to get there. They keep their eyes focused on the prize. For some it is the actual medal. For some it's simply competing at the games. For others the prize may be the career and financial rewards that come after the Olympics. It's important that you find time to imagine what the results will look and feel like, so you experience that inspiration. It will carry you across all the things you will have to do to achieve your goal.
